Defensive Rifle Three (Course Description)
Defensive Rifle 3 is an advanced, high intensity rifle and pistol training course designed for experienced shooters seeking to refine weapon integration, movement, and decision making under realistic defensive conditions. This course builds upon prior training and emphasizes efficient weapon transitions, mobility, barricade use, and problem solving with both platforms.
This is a proprietary training program designed and delivered by CRMP TRAINING LLC (Phase 3 Training, Inc.). The curriculum is not NRA approved and is intended solely for internal instructional use. All course materials are the intellectual property of CRMP TRAINING LLC and may not be reproduced, distributed, or shared without express written consent.
Training Philosophy
Defensive Rifle 3 prioritizes real world defensive application over competition style shooting. Instruction focuses on:● Combat effective accuracy over bullseye precision● Consistent weapon handling under stress● Efficient problem solving and decision making● Safe, deliberate movement with rifle and pistol
Students are coached to deliver effective hits, manage equipment efficiently, and maintain situational awareness in dynamic environments.
Course Structure & Administration
The course begins with:● Student check in and staff introductions● Verification of prerequisites and pistol licenses● Collection of any outstanding balances● Distribution of name tags as needed
A comprehensive safety briefing follows, tailored to the specific range and training environment.
Safety First
Safety is paramount throughout the course. Strict range procedures are always enforced, including:● Muzzle discipline and trigger finger management● Mandatory eye and electronic ear protection● Controlled loading, unloading, and movement protocols● Manual safety is engaged between strings (if applicable)
Emergency procedures are reviewed in detail, and all students must provide emergency contact information prior to live fire.
Pre–Live Fire Safety Review Includes:● Misfire recognition● Hang fire procedures● Squib load identification
In the event of a suspected malfunction, shooters will maintain the firearm pointed downrange for a minimum of 30 seconds before remedial action. Instructors continuously monitor for signs and symptoms of squib loads.
Skills & Techniques Covered
Students will review and apply advanced rifle and pistol fundamentals, including:● Grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger control● Search and assess procedures● Workspace management● Administrative and tactical reloads● Press checks and in battery checks● Malfunction recognition and clearing (S.P.O.R.T.S. method)
Live Fire & Movement Drills
Live fire training is progressive and performance based, emphasizing accuracy, movement, and safe weapon handling. Drills include:● Rifle to pistol transitions under time and movement● Shooting on the move (forward, backward, lateral, and zig zag)● Weak side shooting and barricade utilization● Advanced prone positions (rollover, reverse rollover, broken back prone)● Multi target engagement and rapid target discrimination● Cold defensive drills and stress induced decision making
Students will be required to reload, clear malfunctions, and maintain control of both weapon systems while moving and using cover.
Important Note
This is an advanced defensive rifle and pistol course. It is not suitable for beginners or for individuals without a solid foundation in safe firearm handling and defensive shooting fundamentals.
Students are encouraged to bring any additional equipment they wish to test in a defensive training environment.
