Firearm Maintenance & Cleaning (Course Description)
The Phase 3 Training Firearm Maintenance & Cleaning Course is a comprehensive, hands-on class designed to teach firearm owners how to properly clean, inspect, lubricate, and maintain their firearms to ensure safe, reliable, and long-term operation.
Proper maintenance is a critical but often overlooked aspect of firearm ownership. This course demystifies the cleaning process and provides students with practical, real-world instruction they can confidently apply at home. Whether you are a new gun owner or an experienced shooter, this class will help you extend the life of your firearm, improve reliability, and identify potential safety issues before they become problems.
This is a non-live-fire classroom-based course conducted by experienced instructors from Phase 3 Training.

Firearm Safety & Handling● Safe firearm handling during cleaning and maintenance● Clearing procedures and safety checks● Safe storage of firearms, ammunition, and cleaning materials
Firearm Components & Function● Identification of major firearm components● Understanding how different firearm actions operate● Recognizing normal wear vs. potential problems
Disassembly & Reassembly● Field stripping common handgun platforms● Manufacturer-recommended disassembly levels● Proper reassembly and function checks● Common mistakes that cause malfunctions or damage
Cleaning Techniques● Proper cleaning of barrels, chambers, slides, frames, and magazines● Correct use of cleaning rods, brushes, patches, and solvents● Avoiding over-cleaning and damage to firearm components
Lubrication & Protection● Where to lubricate—and where not to lubricate● Proper oil vs. grease application● Preventing corrosion and rust● Long-term storage considerations
Inspection & Troubleshooting● Identifying worn, damaged, or broken parts● Signs of unsafe conditions● When to seek a qualified gunsmith● Preventative maintenance practices
No live ammunition is permitted in the classroom
Cleaning supplies and demonstration materials will be provided by the instructor.
Instructional Style
Instruction is hands-on, instructor-led, and interactive, with demonstrations and individual guidance. Students are encouraged to ask questions and gain confidence in performing maintenance on their own firearms.
This course focuses on real-world ownership and responsibility, not competition or theory.
