Defensive Shotgun Two (Course Description)
Defensive Shotgun 2 is an advanced, proprietary training course developed and taught exclusively by CRMP TRAINING LLC dba Phase 3 Training. This program is not NRA-approved and is designed for students seeking to elevate their defensive shotgun skills in a controlled, safety-focused environment. All course materials are the intellectual property of CRMP TRAINING LLC and are for internal use only; reproduction or sharing is strictly prohibited without written consent from the owner.
Course Overview
Participants will begin with a comprehensive check-in process, including safety briefings, staff introductions, and administrative tasks. The course emphasizes strict range safety protocols, including emergency contact procedures, clear range commands, and rigorous firearm handling rules. Students will learn to maintain unloaded firearms except when on the firing line under direct command, and all actions are supervised by certified range safety officers.
Training Focus
The curriculum is built around real-world defensive applications, prioritizing problem-solving, consistency, and efficiency over competitive or “gaming” approaches. Instructors demonstrate all techniques using snap caps to reinforce safe handling. Students are taught to operate within their “workspace”—the natural area in front of the body—ensuring all manipulations are performed safely and efficiently.
Core Skills Covered
● Review of shooting fundamentals: grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger and breath control, and follow-through● Advanced reload techniques: competition, administrative, and tactical reloads● Shotgun patterning, ammo management, and malfunction drills● Defensive shooting versus bullseye shooting, with an emphasis on combat-effective hits
Live Fire and Practical Drills
Students will engage in a variety of live-fire exercises, including:● Timed “1 Round Load Drill” to develop speed and efficiency● The “1-3 Drill” for engaging multiple targets with varying shot counts● Movement drills incorporating pivoting, walking, and reloading under simulated stress● The “El Presidente” drill (modified for Shotgun), focusing on rapid engagement, reloading, and accuracy under time constraints● “Slug Changer Over” drills, including barricade and movement variations, to practice transitioning between targets and ammunition types under realistic conditions
Safety and Supervision
Safety is paramount throughout the course. All drills are closely monitored by instructors, and students are required to demonstrate safe gun handling at all times. The course structure ensures that students train to the point of failure in a safe environment, preparing them for real-world defensive scenarios.
