Defensive Shotgun Low Light / No Light (Course Description)
Defensive Shotgun: No Light / Low Light: This advanced, proprietary course—designed and taught by CRMP TRAINING LLC dba Phase 3 Training focused on developing defensive shotgun skills in low light and no light environments. It is not NRA approved and is intended for students who have completed prior defensive shotgun training. The curriculum emphasizes real-world problem solving, defensive shooting fundamentals, and combat-effective hits, moving beyond traditional bullseye or competition shooting.
Safety & Administration
● Comprehensive range safety briefing and procedures● Emergency contact protocol for all students● Strict firearm handling rules: no loaded guns except on the firing line, clear commands for loading/unloading, and mandatory use of manual safety between drills● All equipment must be cased /uncased at the firing point with all participants behind the line
Training Focus
● Fundamentals: Grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, breath control, follow-through, and workspace management● Reloading: Practice various reload techniques (admin, tactical, competition) in the workspace for maximum situational awareness● Problem Solving: Training emphasizes reality-based scenarios, consistency, and efficiency over gaming or sport shooting
Live Fire Drills
● Warm-Up: Timed 1-round load drill (7 rounds, empty shotgun on bench, light used only when aiming)● 1-3 Drill: Engage three targets with increasing round counts to reinforce the need for multiple shots in defensive scenarios● Movement Drills: Practice walking, pivoting, turning, and reloading with snap caps; includes transitions to pistol and one-handed operation● “El Presidente” Drill: Modified for carbine, challenging students to engage multiple targets quickly and accurately under time pressure
Low Light / No Light Scenarios
● Instinctive Shooting: Engage targets using point shooting techniques rather than precise sighting, building familiarity with weapon orientation in darkness● Barrier Drills: Engage multiple threats from behind cover, maintaining light discipline and minimizing exposure● Doorway Room Clearing: Aggressive clearing operations with strict time limits, emphasizing situational awareness, speed, and shock action● Mandatory Stoppage Clear: Simulated malfunctions requiring immediate action under no light conditions
Advanced Shotgun Techniques
