NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading (Course Description)
The NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading Course is an introductory classroom-based program designed for individuals who are new to metallic cartridge reloading and want to develop a solid foundation in safe and responsible reloading practices. The course emphasizes the essential knowledge, skills, and attitude required to safely reload metallic cartridges, making it ideal for beginning reloaders who want structured, instructor-led instruction.
This eight-hour course is conducted entirely in a classroom setting and provides students with a comprehensive overview of the metallic cartridge reloading process. Instruction begins with a strong focus on reloading safety, ensuring students understand the importance of safe handling practices and attention to detail throughout every stage of reloading. Students are introduced to centerfire cartridge components, learning how each component functions and how they work together within a finished cartridge.
The course also covers the proper use of a reloading manual and reloading data, helping students understand how to read and follow published data accurately. Instruction includes an overview of reloading equipment, familiarizing students with the tools commonly used in metallic cartridge reloading. Finally, students are guided through the metallic cartridge reloading process, providing a clear understanding of the sequence of steps involved from start to finish.
Each student receives a set of official course materials, including the NRA Guide to Reloading handbook, the Basic Reloading Student Exam, and a course completion certificate. Additional materials provided include the NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, and a Course Evaluation form. These resources are intended to reinforce classroom instruction and support continued learning beyond the course.
